Historians disagree on whether the obscure tomb is actually that of 8th century Sufi poetess Rābi’ah al-‘Adawīyah. The site has been venerated by Christians as the grave of St. Pelagia, a 5th-century courtesan who converted from paganism and lived on the Mount of Olives as penitent dressed in men’s clothes. And since the Middle Ages, Jews have revered the cave site as the 3,000-year-old grave of the Prophetess Hulda.
