Sailing overnight between China and South Korea.
After dark, the topside hatches are sealed by the crew, presumably against midnight suicides, which just guarantees a mass suicide if we go down. A ghost ship with a few dozen passengers and hundreds of empty cabins. Abandoned decks. Silent passageways. Everyone flies these days. COVID strangles off the last of the international ferryboats. The coast of China slips behind, a cosmos relegating itself to memory. I walk circles in my quarters.
