Observations from social media from the Milestone location
As this milestone inches toward the coast of Turkey, the Tweets and Instagram posts point outward past the sea. Some people post about the beautiful weather and swimming resorts along the shore, others about Operation Protective Edge in Gaza. Animals abound: a friendly pelican, and the ethics of leaving out water for stray cats. In Turkish, we learn, people say that the sun is born to mean that it has risen. And under this birthed sun, one woman takes her cup of coffee to think of “faraway places while listening to the sounds of the sea and the waves.”
